6 Awesome Movie Amusement Park Rides And Their Real Life Locations

Despite being the least efficient mode of transportation available today, people can’t get enough to these damned amusement park rides. I myself enjoy being flung around by steel monsters quite a bit, but truth be told I much prefer rides as they are depicted in films.

The reason for this is simple: since they aren’t going to build a whole amusement park ride just for the film they go find one that already exists, then they proceed to make it look 10 times more awesome than it really is by adding cool elements or characters to it. The result is a ride that is just too fun to exist. The following are those rides that set the bar up high, as well as their less-awesome...

Barabati moat project unlikely to meet 2012-deadline

CUTTACK: The Cuttack Municipal Corporations ambitious project of renovating Gadakhai (the moat surrounding the Barabati fort) and developing it into a major tourist destination is likely to miss the 2012 deadline as work has been stopped for more than a month now.

The civic body had decided to develop the moat into a multi-purpose water sports complex with boating facility and amusement parks.

A dog tag’s amazing journey

A US Marine Corps identification tag, which was lost during Word War II and found in a yam field on Saipan in 1981, was flown from the island to Massachusetts where it was finally returned to its owner, veteran Richard Caldwell Urie, now 86, over the weekend.

The dog tag made the last leg of its journey and is back where it belongs! assistant US attorney Timothy E. Moran told Saipan Tribune yesterday via email.

Moran and his family handed the dog tag to Urie during lunch on Sunday (Monday on Saipan) at Uries retirement compound, Brooksby Village, in Peabody, Massachusetts.

Urie, who now uses a power chair to get around, was with his four daughters, two sons-in-law, and a friend...

Hasty dismounts add spice to journey

With his journey well under way after stopping in Ashburton, David Wilson is on track to reach the top of the North Island on his journey across the country on a penny farthing.

The penny farthing Mr Wilson is travelling on has 54 inch (137 centimetre) wheels and was made in Oamaru. Mr Wilson began riding the old fashioned cycles in 1992.

As far as possible, the ride is being done as it would have been done in 1882.

He said it took him 19 days to pedal from Stewart Island to Wellington, reaching the North Island last month. A few days were allowed for repairs to the penny farthing and for Mr Wilson to rest. The first stage proved quite demanding,...

In Angelina Jolies film In the Land of Blood and Honey, a Bosnian Serb has an affair with a Bosnian Muslim — not the likeliest romance ever captured in film.

There are plenty of unlikely movie romances, in fact. Here are some of the more notable.

May-December Romances On Film

Ever since the story of Lolita was published, the May-December romance has been a popular theme on film. Usually this is a relationship with two people who are very far apart in age. Often, it is a very young girl who is under age and a much older man who is almost 30. Despite the risk of statutory rape charges, filmmakers do enjoy bringing this kind of love story to life. Here are some examples of the May-December romance in the movie.

Lolita
Lolita caused such a scandal when it was first published. The story of a young girl, who seduces her stepfather and removes her mother from the home, was so shocking when people first read it. Lolita has now become a term synonymous with...

EU’s new CSR report offers realistic initiatives to promote sustainability

In the midst of the Euro-zone crisis, it would have been easy to miss the recent publication of the new Communication on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from the European Commission. Publication had been delayed several times as rival camps battled over the text.

The final product will disappoint those calling for far more regulation of business behaviour but it is an intellectually coherent, pragmatic and useful document.

There are a number of important features for those interested in improving their reputations and, therefore, the licence to operate of companies. The report offers a new EU definition of CSR which emphasises that this is about core business purpose and strategy...

Tuscaloosa mayor: Alabama BCS journey mirrors city’s path to recovery

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — While Tuscaloosa continues to make strides in its recovery since the devastating April 27, 2011 tornado, it still has a long way to go.

Credit the Alabama football teams 21-0 victory over LSU and record 14th national championship for helping speed along the process for Tuscaloosa residents still in need of hope.

Mayor Walt Maddox says there is something meaningful about this particular championship for several reasons, but mainly because it provides some healing to those who lost so much in the storm.

In so many ways, the Crimson Tides journey has mirrored our citizens journey toward recovery in the face of tremendous adversity, Maddox said.

Maddox...
